Privacy Policy

Latter Years helps families find assisted living and memory care, and helps home health agencies stay in touch with the patients they discharge. This policy covers what we collect, why we collect it, and your rights over it.
What we collect
- Quiz answers. We store your quiz answers with your account, so you can come back to your results and so the facility-matching quiz can produce your matches.
- Contact information. Name, email and phone number for you, and for anyone you're researching care for.
- Messages. Texts and emails between you and a facility sent through Latter Years, with when each was sent and whether it was delivered.
- Information a community gives us about you. If you contacted a community directly, it may add you to Latter Years: your name, email and phone number, how you found the community and when you reached out, and the first name of the person you're looking for care for.
- Consent records. When you agreed to be contacted, on which channel, and how: the page or link you used, the phone number you entered, the IP address and browser details of the device, and the exact wording you agreed to. We keep these records after you revoke consent, as proof that we followed the consent process.
- Tour and brief records. Notes, checklists and summaries you create while touring or comparing facilities.
- Public facility data. Facts about facilities, such as license type, capacity and inspection history, from public state records or a facility's own website. We label anything the facility hasn't confirmed as unconfirmed.
Health-adjacent information
Some of what you share, such as care needs or medical history relevant to a match, is health-adjacent. Latter Years is not a covered healthcare provider. We still encrypt this information in transit and at rest, and only staff who need it for their work can see it. It never goes in the body of a text or email; we send a secure link instead.
If a community added you
A community you contacted may add you to Latter Years so it can follow up quickly. After that:
- Email. We may email you on the community's behalf, from "the community's name via Latter Years", at most once a week. Each email has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops all Latter Years email to that address, including from any other community that adds you later.
- Texts only after you agree. A form you filled out on a referral site or anywhere else doesn't count. We text you only after you agree yourself: on the community's consent page or QR code, through the link in an email from us, or by replying YES to a text asking whether you want texts. A community can request that question only after confirming you gave it your number for this purpose, and at most once a week.
- Your own account. The email includes a link to make a free Latter Years account. If you make one, your conversation with that community moves into it, where you can message the community's team and choose how you're contacted.
- What the community sees. The community sees whether and how you agreed to texts, for example "agreed through your consent link". It doesn't see the IP address or browser details we keep as evidence.
How we use what we collect
- To produce your quiz results and facility matches.
- To let you and the facilities you connect with message each other.
- To send you service messages, such as a tour confirmation or reminder, and other outreach from a facility only where you've agreed to it.
- To improve matching and our content. Subscription tiers, yours or a facility's, are not a matching or ranking input. Our "how we rank" page explains what is.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
Who helps us run the service
We use a small number of service providers to run Latter Years: a sign-in and identity provider, a text-messaging provider, a cloud hosting and email provider, an AI model provider, a mapping and place-data provider, a website analytics provider, and a payment processor for communities and agencies that subscribe. Each one receives only the information it needs to do its job for us, and handles it under its agreement with us. To get the current list of these providers by name, contact us using the details at the end of this policy.
Consent and messaging
We text you only after you agree yourself. If you found a community through Latter Years, you agree once, the first time you share your information with a community or schedule a tour. If a community added you, you agree in one of the ways listed above. Texts come from a Latter Years number, on behalf of the community you're talking with.
Reply STOP to any text, or change your account settings, to stop texts at any time. Use the link in any email from us to unsubscribe from email. Reply START to a Latter Years number to turn texts back on. We honor a revocation immediately and from then on, and we keep the record that you gave consent and then revoked it as proof we followed the process.
We do not share or sell your mobile number or your consent to receive texts to third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. The service providers listed above handle it only to deliver our messages.
Your care team's link
A hospital, clinic or care team may hand you a Latter Years link or QR code at discharge. The link carries the kind of care, the area and the insurance plan they entered, and the communities, guides and quizzes they picked for you. It carries nothing about you or your loved one, and the care team cannot see what you do here.
When you keep what a care team sent with your account, you choose in the same step whether that care team hears how your search goes: one button keeps it and lets them know, the other keeps it and tells them nothing. Only the admin of your family account can agree to this. If they do, we tell the care team that you made an account. If you choose a community, hospice or home care agency that care team recommended, we also tell them which one and when you moved in or care started (for a hospice or home care agency, once the agency has said care started and you have confirmed it). If you choose a community they did not recommend, we tell them only that you settled on a community, not which one. If you agreed under earlier wording that named communities only, a hospice or home care agency you choose is not shared unless you agree again. Choosing a hospice can itself say something about your loved one's health, which is why it is named here and in the words you agree to. Never your messages, your quiz answers, your contact details, or any other detail of your loved one's health. We record who agreed, when, the exact words they agreed to, and the IP address and browser details at the time, as we do for any consent.
You can keep links from more than one care team. Each has its own two switches under Account: whether they can see how it went, and whether their picks are shown on your pages. You can change either at any time; once sharing is off, that care team learns nothing further. No care team is told that you have another.
A senior living community, home health agency or hospice can send you a link the same way. Everything above applies to it as it does to a care team: it sees only what your family's admin agrees to, and nothing else. We name it on your pages by its own name, show its own listing once and apart from everything we rank, and show, beside each place it recommends, what it told us about any ownership or financial relationship with that place. What it recommends never changes how we rank anything.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use only what the site needs to work. We don't use advertising cookies, tracking pixels or cross-site trackers, so there's nothing to accept or decline.
- Sign-in cookies. Our sign-in provider, Clerk, sets cookies that keep you signed in and protect sign-up from bots. The site can't work without them.
- Site analytics. We count visits with Plausible Analytics, which sets no cookies and collects no personal data.
- Visit counts. To count visits without identifying you, we record a one-way code made from your IP address and browser. The code changes every day, so we can't link your visits across days, and we don't store your IP address for this.
- Storage in your browser. A few things stay on your own device so the site works smoothly: where you came from when you arrived (cleared when you close the tab), your quiz results before you make an account, a tour-notes draft you haven't saved yet, and whether your chat panel is open. They stay on your device, and we don't use them to track you.
If we ever add cookies that aren't needed for the site to work, we'll update this section and ask for your consent first where the law requires it.
AI assistant disclosure
Some facilities use an AI assistant, under a name the facility chooses, to answer routine questions. If you ask whether you're talking to a person or an AI, the assistant tells you the truth. If you ask to speak to a person, the conversation goes to someone on the facility's team. A facility can also turn on a label that has the assistant introduce itself as an AI from the start; without it, the assistant says so when asked.
Your rights
If you're a Utah resident, the Utah Consumer Privacy Act gives you the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Delete your account and the data tied to it.
- Opt out of the sale of your data or its use for targeted advertising. We do neither, and you can ask us to confirm that in writing.
You can delete your account and its data at any time from Account → Delete your account. Deletion removes your quiz history, facility matches, briefs and tour records. If a facility has already taken you in as a resident, it keeps its own record of you, created after your move-in, and deleting your Latter Years account doesn't remove that record.
VA benefits quiz
The VA benefits quiz is for education only. Latter Years is not accredited to prepare, present or file a VA benefits claim for you, and the quiz doesn't replace advice from an accredited Veterans Service Officer or attorney. We never share your answers to that quiz with a facility, and we never use them for matching.
