Start a Follow-Up Sequence From a Ready-Made Starter

Updated October 24, 2026

A starter is a follow-up sequence Latter Years has already written for something you want to happen, such as following up with a family who just reached out or checking in on one who has gone quiet. Open Automations, tap "+ New sequence" and pick one under "Start from a starter". It opens in the editor ready to save, and nothing goes out until you turn it on.

Pick a starter

Each starter is named for what it does, and its card says when it starts and when each message goes. The starters you see are written for your kind of organization, so a community and an agency each see their own set.

Tap Start on the one you want. The full editor opens with the starter's messages and timing filled in, so you can read every step and change any of it before you save.

Turn it on when you are ready

A sequence started from a starter is saved paused. Read the steps, tick Enabled when you want it to run, and tap Save sequence. You can also save it paused and switch it on later from the list, where each sequence has an On or Paused button.

Already have it?

A starter you already run shows Running or Paused on its card, with Open beside it to go to your sequence. Tap "Start another copy" to make a second one, saved with "(copy)" on the end of its name, for example to run a different version at another location.

Starter or Yours

Your list marks each sequence. Starter means Latter Years set it up for you when your listing was approved. Yours means someone on your team built it, and a sequence you start from the starters grid counts as yours, so you can change or rename it freely.

Rather write your own?

Under the starters, "Or build your own" asks a few short questions: when it starts, what to send and when, and what stops it. "More options" opens the full editor for anything those questions do not cover.

Only someone who can edit automations sees "+ New sequence". If you do not see it, ask your admin.
